WARNING! THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT MEANT TO REPLACE A BLOWOUT/WINTERIZATION. IT’S PURPOSE IS TO LESSEN THE CHANCE OF DAMAGE DURING SUDDEN FREEZE.

HOW TO DRAIN YOUR SPRINKLER SYSTEM

Sprinkler supply shut off

BEGIN IN THE BASEMENT OR WHEREVER YOUR SHUT OFF IS LOCATED

  1. FIND YOUR SPRINKLER SHUT OFF VALVE AND CLOSE IT TIGHT.
  2. FIND THE DRAIN AND OPEN IT AND LEAVE OPEN. 

ONCE YOU HAVE TURNED OFF THE WATER SUPPLY TO THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM FOLLOW THESE STEPS.. 

3. TAKE A SCREW DRIVER OUTSIDE TO YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTER (PICTURED BELOW). 
4. TURN THE HANDLES CLOCK WISE  TO A 45 DEGREE ANGLE
5.  TURN SCREW SLOTS  ON PORTS TO A 45 DEGREE  ANGLE
6.  LOOSEN CAP ON ELBOW BELOW BACKFLOW (IF YOUR SYSTEM IS EQUIPPED WITH ONE.)
YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTER SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE IMAGE BELOW WHEN FINISHED

7. SOME SYSTEMS HAVE AN ADDITION DRAIN IN THE GREEN VALVE BOX IN THE GROUND. IF SO EQUIPPED OPEN THE DRAIN. (BE CAREFUL OF SPIDERS)
